According to Stack Overflow’s annual Developer Hiring Landscape survey, candidates think email is a “great” way to be initially contacted by a recruiter.
And while the study focuses on software engineers, it’s a good representation of opinions backed by an impressive sample size of 26,086 responses with global representation from 157 countries. So next time you go to pick up the phone first, take these statistics into account.
The survey also found that LinkedIn InMails aren’t all that bad, with the majority of people responding that it’s a “great” way or a “tolerated” to contact them.
However, while this is useful information to take into consideration, this is not to say you should never pick up the phone. Everyone has their own preference and as seen in this survey, some people would rather hear a friendly voice on the phone then get another email that they won’t open.
